As aired on KENS 5 Eyewitness News, 11/14/2003, this tree rescue was no small feat. The Live Oak tree weighed in at 136,000 lbs (approx 30 cars).
During the tree's excavation, a French drain was discovered at the north end. It had been nourishing the Live Oak tree's roots with holy communion water, Eucharist, from the church for 40 years.
Although this made the tree's roots that much deeper and the tree rescue more difficult; Art Martinez and his crew successfully uncovered the tree's ball which was 20 feet wide and 5 1/2 feet deep.
As the photos illustrate, moving this tree from Point A to Point B had to be precise due to it's size, location between two buildings and most importantly taking great care to keep it alive and in one piece.
